Annual membership is now due for renewal for all our members, who should have received letters from our Membership Secretary

For those who have not yet become members of the FDP and would like to join us, there are two levels of membership, Ordinary Member & Associate Member.  The main difference being that there is no membership fee/donation required for ordinary membership but we do ask for a minimum donation of £2.50 for Associate Membership.  This gives those members voting rights at election etc.

We have also decided to use some of the funds raised from Associate Members donations to have one of the large brick pavers  surrounding the bandstand, dedicated to the FDP.

Click above to print / complete a membership form.

Either post it to us using the enclosed address or email it to us.

The Bandstand and “Buy A Brick Campaign”!

Thank you to the many people and organisations who have already purchased a “brick” (Victorian paving slab), immortalising their loved one’s or other names, or company details in the upcoming design of the new Devonport Park Bandstand. Despite now having the necessary funds and as a result of it’s popularity, we are still continuing to raise funds towards projects within the park by selling these Victorian bricks. Details on how to purchase a brick are below.

The latest batch of pavers have just been laid and we can now take orders for the next set, to be installed around September 2013.

The prices are as follows:

STANDARD: max of 32 character, ideal for individuals £35.00
LARGE: max of  80  characters, ideal for businesses £100.00

CERTIFICATES: these are available for £2.00 only (£2.50 laminated). There are several versions available to choose from - see files below.

To make your order, download and complete the Brick Ordering Pledge Form and post / email this to the designated address with payment in full (cash, cheque, PO) OR pay by PayPal (please note the transaction ID and put it on the completed ordering form).

For more details, contact either Fiona Hunter (Secretary) on 07906687298 or Mike Gallagher  (Chairman) at 01752 213308 or by email  - see below

The picture above shows the original Victorian pavers (top) and the design of the etched pavers you can purchase (bottom), the colour of which will be made to match the original pavers.

The “Buy A Brick” Campaign - Buy Yours NOW!

Ltd Ed. Devonport Park Print: buy Yours NOW!!

The Friends of Devonport Park are a voluntary community group (now a REGISTERED charity), which has an elected committee, representative of the area surrounding Devonport Park, who alongside members of other community organisations and the Plymouth City Council (PCC), have worked together to complete the  the restoration of Devonport Park (see restoration project).

Devonport Park is a beautiful victorian park, in use as such from the mid-1800's. Devonport Park is a historic Victorian public park located between the suburbs of Devonport and Stoke in the City of Plymouth & has been in use since the mid-1800s. It has seen many changes over the years, both in its general appearance and uses. Over the years, the park has seen a general decline in its maintenance and use and this was the main reason for the creation of the Friends of Devonport Park (FDP) community group in September 2005.

Devonport Park lies on the north-east edge of the historic dockyard of Devonport and is owned and managed by Plymouth City Council.  The former park nursery is operated separately by Plymouth Social Services as an adult training centre, and the former Higher Lodge is let on a long lease as a care home for the elderly with access along a park footpath from Fore Street.  The whole area isregistered as a Park and Garden of Special Historic Interest by English Heritage. The park includes a number of sports facilities including tennis courts, football pitches, a bowling green, and a play area.

The park’s inclusion on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest, means that it has been identified as having historic significance on a national level as a good surviving example of a Victorian public park, with a wealth of regionally and nationally important monuments.  However, it is of especial historic significance to the people of Devonport and Plymouth, a fundamental part of the history of the dockyard, the development of the town of Devonport, and a product of the local community, with monuments reflecting the importance placed on nautical and military history.
